Hello,
I am Chris, currently attending the education program at TRU, I have a background in business with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Simon Fraser University concentrating in accounting, an associate degree in business administration from Mira Costa community college as well as years of experience working in management, accounting (tax, accounts payable & receivable, general accounting, etc.), and insurance (auto, home, etc.).
I also have extensive volunteer experience working to help community centers, do financial work at events, helping the disadvantaged to complete their tax returns, and working for over a decade at Western Society for Children starting off helping with accounting work and moving onto joining the board of directors and later becoming the treasurer of their board of directors.
I’m passionate about helping the community, especially those who are disadvantaged financially or part of minorities that are systematically discriminated against. I believe we should all work toward a society where people who are born into situations that inhibit their options and abilities to live a full and rich life are given the supports and help needed to give them as much as possible the same opportunities as others, a world where we don’t discriminate against those of different nationalities, ‘races’, sexual and gender identities, etc., and one where we do our best to right past wrongs such as the systematic discrimination and attempts to destroy culture and identities such as those perpetrated against our nations indigenous populations.
My interests personally include cycling (both on road and off), hiking, reading (anything from news, to journal articles, philosophy & education books, to fiction) , and gardening (I always get excited at the end of winter to start seeds and see the new growth coming out of my pots and gardens, then tend them throughout the growing season).
